Bali Tropical Weather – When is the best time to visit Bali.

When is the best time to visit Bali? Bali is located only 8º (890 km) south of the equator. Thus, Balinese weather is tropical, to say the least – reliably hot and sunny. Days are almost always 12 hours long. Around sunrise, 6:20 a.m, locals can be seen on the beach blessing the new day, playing with their families in the surf, or harnessing their nets for a day of fishing. The sun then sets around 6:30 p.m when families generally retreat inside. The daytime temperature averages between 80º F (27ºC) to 90º F (32ºC) in the southern lowlands. In Bali however, it is quite humid at about 75% so often times it feels much hotter. The mountains tend to be significantly cooler at around 70º F (21ºC) to 80º F (27ºC). At night the mountains can get pretty chilly.

Bali’s tropical monsoon climate has two distinct seasons: dry (between May to September) and wet (between October to April). Monsoon refers to the wind, not the rain. However even in the wet monsoon, in this tropical paradise, it is still likely it will be sunny for a good part of the day. Therefore you can expect a tropical, warm and humid climate all year round – with two main distinctive seasons: Dry Season and Rainy Season. Bali’s central mountains (volcanoes) include several peaks over 3,000 meters in elevation. Up there, the temperatures are considerably cooler, and there is much more rainfall than in the coastal areas.

The best time to visit Bali depends mainly on the weather and on the high and low season, which does affect the overall price for accommodation or private villa.  High season is during the months of July and August, during Easter Holidays, and Christmas / New Year (December till 1st week of January). This is the time Bali is the busiest. However, for many reasons, the best time to come to Bali is April, May, June, and September, just before and just after high season. It’s still dry season, it’s slightly less humid, and room prices and villa rentals can be 30-50% cheaper than during the high season. Many shops offer sales and promotions, restaurants are less crowded in those mid-season months, and in general, Bali is a bit more relaxed.

October is not too bad either, still much less rain than November. Those months are also the best time for water sport activities such as scuba diving, surfing, snorkeling, etc. Waters are clear, crowd not too bad, etc. Also, major activities and attractions such as the family parks and fun things to do ( visit Bali swing, Coffee tasting, Day cycling in north Ubud,  Bali Zoo, Bali Bird Park, Marine & Safari Park, Waterbom, White Water Rafting, Monkey Forest, Elephant Safari Park, etc) have fewer visitors which can make the experience far more enjoyable. If you wish to explore the island and visit the main sightseeing spots, temples and go for a day trip and tour, then those months are also perfect.

Dry Season

The dry season is between May and September. Bali receives the most visitors during July & August. Temperatures are pretty steady all year round. During Bali’s dry season beaches are generally clean and Bali shows its pretty side. One can still expect occasional rainfall though, sometimes even the locals are surprised how dry a week during the rainy season can be and the other way around.

Rainy Season

During the rainy season which is typically from October to April  Bali becomes quieter. The sea is rougher, the beaches and the ocean in the south (Kuta, Legian, Seminyak) can be quite dirty due to debris washed onto the shore during January and February. It’s not happening always, but it can happen and depends on wind conditions and currents. The winds are stronger at the coast, the water currents pick up and it can rain in buckets. Although, usually the rain stops after a few hours and the sun shines again. A lot of the times it rains during the night and days are o.k. Very rarely you have a few days when it rains continuously.
